Health related activities of the project consist mainly of creating awareness among the Baka regarding the causes of diseases and of the habits that may be adopted to avoid these diseases.

In order of prevalence, the diseases that affect the population most are malaria, diarhea, infectious diseases and skin ailments.

Malaria and infectious diseases are the principal causes of death among the Baka. Since the establishment of two health stations in the Djoum region, it has been noticed that there is a substantial decrease in the number of deaths caused by illnesses. We realize that not only are illness preventing habits formed, but the Baka are more and more comfortable approaching the health stations for proper healthcare. In 1998 alone, the health stations provided consultations and treatment to 3,862 patients.

Access to clean drinking water as a result of the construction of drinking water wells by the project has also assisted the population in preventing water-borne diseases.

Other activities of the project: Agriculture  ·  Education
