In the field of education, the project has two areas where it is effective:
- Education of children
- Adult literacy
Education of children
The education of Baka children is supported in two ways by the project. Firstly, the project has initiated the construction of classrooms in the pygmy camps and provides qualified instructors that are paid regularly. Secondly, the project has constructed and maintains a hostel each in Djoum and in Kribi for pygmy children. They are housed at these hostels and integrated into “mainstream” schools.
The project supports over a hundred pygmy children (both Baka and Baguieli) that go to school regularly and are enthusiastic to do so.
The adults are taught in different age groups. The adults are taught using Bulu and Baka terminology and are provided an introduction to other cultures and people.
